Yesterday, Lalabye Baby released two new diapers for their customers to ogle over: an intricate, floral, tropical bird print and a gorgeous plum colored solid.

The customers who ‘attended’ the reveal event via Facebook were the first to see the beautiful video created by YouTube Vloggers and lovers of Lalabye Baby diapers, Kristen and Shaun of GherkinBeans Vlog. (Go subscribe! Comment! Show some love!) The video stars their adorable little girl, Hazel, sporting the new solid and the new print in a tropical conservatory on Belle Isle.

During the reveal yesterday, Lalabye Baby fans were also given a chance to name the diapers in order to win them! The winners:

However, these two new releases are not just about a pretty solid and a fun print- a lot of thought and heart went into the creation of these new diapers! So, I decided to interview Melissa (the creator and owner of Lalabye Baby) to get the inside scoop.

Q: What inspired you to come up with this new bird print?

A: I was inspired during my trip to Costa Rica last summer. I was born and raised there and my father and siblings still live there so we try to go visit whenever we can. Last summer was the first time the kids really got to enjoy the trip and the culture.

Q: What birds can we spy on this new print?

A:

Quetzals! Fun Facts: These birds are endangered and currently find safe harbor in Costa Rica’s tropical cloud forests. The male’s tail feathers can grow up to 3 feet long!

Toucans! Fun Facts: Their beaks are 1/3 the size of their bodies but are very light! These birds rarely truly fly; they prefer hopping from branch to branch or gliding when necessary.

Macaws! Fun Facts: Viewed most often in Costa Rica in the Corcovado National Park and the Carara National Park, these birds  are the largest species of parrots in the Americas and typically mate for life!

Q: Oh! You are from Costa Rica? Where are you from, and what do you love about the country when you get to visit?

A: Well, the real story is that both of my parents are from Nicaragua, but I was born in Costa Rica, and my father and siblings still live there. My dad lives in a very small town there, but I was actually born in the capital (San Jose). We love to visit because there’s just so much to do there. It truly is a beautiful “rich” country. You can go to the beach or the mountains or even the rainforest. I’m just fascinated that such a small country can hold so much rich variety!

Q: Does the new plum colored diaper have any background story?

A: So, the new plum color is inspired by “la guaria morada.”

orchid

It’s Costa Rica’s national flower. 🙂 You can see this in the video clip when we unveiled the new plum colored diaper.

Q: I’m sensing a theme here. Should we all start saving our money for more releases this summer?

A: We are just getting started revealing our new COLLECTION of Lalabye Baby exclusive and unique prints!

Q: WOW! I can’t wait to see what’s coming next! You really work hard to make your customers happy! I also love that you gave your customers some ownership of the new diaper color and print by allowing them to submit names. Will this be happening again?

A: We loved having our customers participate in part of the fun of introducing new colors and prints. We may be seeking more help in the future. 😉
